About Dom Tuvera
My work on labor migration and Overseas Filipino Workers began in the late 1990s while I was working with a labor organization in the Philippines.
I met workers and families dealing with delayed salaries, contract substitutions, abusive treatment, recruitment problems, and jobs that were very different from what had been promised. Families at home were also dealing with uncertainty, financial pressure, and decisions they had never expected to face.
Those conversations stayed with me.
Over the years, my work has covered labor migration, worker protection, labor policy, and regional cooperation in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. It has included work with trade unions, regional organizations, and international programs on migrant workers, fair recruitment, social protection, social dialogue, and decent work.
Again and again, I saw how much harder a problem could become when important information arrived only after a decision had already been made.
I launched Overseas-Filipinos.com in 2009 to help close that gap. I wanted to explain overseas-work issues in plain language and focus on situations Filipinos actually encounter—before departure, while working abroad, and when deciding what comes next.
That remains the purpose of the site today.
