Why This Site Exists

About Dom Tuvera
My work on labor migration and Overseas Filipino Workers began in the late 1990s while working with a labor organization in the Philippines.
During those years, I met many Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families. Workers shared stories about delayed salaries, contract substitutions, abusive treatment, recruitment problems, and jobs that turned out very different from what they had been promised. Families at home often faced uncertainty, financial pressure, and difficult decisions as they tried to support loved ones working overseas.
Those conversations stayed with me because they revealed how quickly problems can grow when workers do not have clear information, realistic expectations, or access to reliable guidance.
Over the years, I have worked on labor migration, worker protection, labor policy, and regional cooperation across the Philippines and Southeast Asia. That work has included partnerships with trade unions, regional organizations, and international programs focused on migrant workers, fair recruitment, social protection, social dialogue, and decent work.
Throughout this work, one lesson kept repeating itself: many problems become harder and more expensive to solve because people lack clear information before important decisions are made.
In 2009, I launched Overseas-Filipinos.com to help fill that gap. My goal was simple: explain overseas work issues in plain language, focus on situations Filipinos actually face, and provide practical guidance that people can use before leaving, while abroad, and when planning what comes next.
That mission continues today.
